Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can serve many purposes. I view the process as a space in which you can receive support, learn more about yourself, and find ways to move closer to your goals. I also believe the process entails not only the conversations you have with your therapist, but also your experimentation with different ways of thinking about and responding to the challenges you encounter in life.

My Approach

The relationship between client and therapist is the strongest predictor of a positive outcome in psychotherapy, and this is the highest priority in my work. While I may have expertise regarding mental health in general, you are the expert when it comes to your own life. Support and collaboration are the foundation upon which we would work to bring you closer to where you want to be.

In addition to prioritizing a supportive and collaborative therapeutic relationship, my work is informed by extensive training in insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, and mindfulness-based approaches to psychotherapy. These approaches emphasize developing self-awareness, understanding the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior, and making effective choices that are aligned with one’s goals.

I bring passion, curiosity, and dedication to my work. In return, I ask that my clients bring openness, honesty, and the willingness to challenge themselves. While some ambivalence about psychotherapy is normal, a strong commitment will maximize the likelihood that you get a good return on the time, energy, and money you invest in the process.

Insurance & Payment

I am considered an “in-network” provider with Excellus, Aetna, and MVP.  If you are planning to seek care through insurance, I recommend consulting with your company ahead of time for information about their coverage related to mental health services as well as any financial responsibilities you have in this scenario (e.g., co-payment).

I also accept self-payment. This option is worth considering if you do not want insurance involved in our work together, or if you have coverage through a company other than those with which I contract (in which case I would be considered an “out-of-network” provider). Some companies may reimburse you in part for fees paid to providers that are not in their network.

Scheduling

If you feel that I may be the right therapist for you, please call my office to schedule a brief phone consultation. During that conversation, we will begin to discuss what you are looking for and decide whether to set up a meeting to talk further. If we agree to meet, that time will be spent further discussing what you hope to get out of psychotherapy as well as important details about your background and my practice. We will also continue to assess whether we are a good fit for helping you reach your goals. Should we decide at any point that your needs may be better met elsewhere, I can provide referrals that may assist in your search for the right person.

Before We Meet

Some paperwork will be necessary. Because it is important to read and complete these documents carefully, I have provided them here. While the Privacy Notice is simply for your reference, please bring the Intake Form and Service Agreement should you choose to complete these ahead of time. This is not required before coming to the office, however it may save time upon arrival.
